Sometimes, life walks in while you’re in the middle of giving it to your training. I mean, you’re really going at it, humming along, and firing on all cylinders.

Them…BAM! In walks life. You make eye contact as you’re balls deep in your training. Then things just get all kinds of weird.

It’s going to happen. Like death, taxes, and [insert something witty here]…you can’t avoid it.

I’ve just gone through one of these encounters. As I’m sure you have noticed, its been a few months since I’ve posted on here…and sadly, also a few months since I’ve trained in any organized fashion.

I’m flabbier, weaker, and slower than I was in August. It sucks. But it’s the reality and it’s something I have control over. I’m not about to run away from it. [Read more…]

Task, Purpose, Effect

No. I did not recently die a freak gasoline fight accident.

Nor did I get crushed to death while enjoying an orgy made up of greased up midget’s.

As a matter of fact I’ve spent the last 2+ weeks in Fort Bragg, the home of the US Army Special Forces, going through some sweet training. I’m all about priorities of work and, sadly, this site and newsletter have been put on the back burner until I can complete this training.

It’s incredible how something so small can lead to massive, lasting changes.

Things as simple as drinking more water each day, or only buying food that will wilt and go bad in a few days are just two examples of how to eat healthier.

Adding a day or two of sprints or even taking a day or two each week to NOT workout are some examples of simple concepts that will make you’re training better.

What about your mindset though?

You’re mindset is the often overlooked aspect of living a healthier and livelier life. It’s not as sexy as saying “do crossfit 12 times per week!” or as controversial as “eating whole eggs will cause your unborn babies to develop AIDs!”. It doesn’t matter how awesome you are in every other aspect of life, if you’re not confident then you’re not Alpha. That’s it. Want proof? Go to a dance club and look at every douche in there. I am a gear whore.

There, I admit it. Bags, training shoes, computers, gadgets…if it falls into one of those categories I’m usually tempted to buy it. So, predictably, when I came across the GoRuck website a few months ago I was smitten with the bags.

Tough, unassuming, yet incredibly functional and customizable. Immediately I thought “Hell yeah! Count me in.” I’ll admit, they are a bit pricey, but Jason (the founder) does a hell of a job letting you know that the bag you are getting will last as long as you want it to and will get better with time.
