Easy Peasy Pot Roast

Easy Peasy Pot Roast

Growing up in my Grandma’s house, Saturday was always Pot Roast day. After cooking meals all week, Saturday was her day to take it easy and then Sunday was “feed your own damn self” day. Anywho, the smell of the pot roast cooking in the crock pot was always something I loved and looked forward too.

So thinking about what to make last week, I decided to go back to those times and throw a huge hunk of beef into the crock pot. [Read more…]

In Defense of Ignorance

In Defense of Ignorance

You’re ignorant.

Yes, you, reading this sentence now, are so incredibly ignorant that you don’t even know it yet. It’s mind-boggling how many people fail to realize this fact. Maybe it’s vanity or maybe it’s…. ignorance…

Let’s go ahead and define it now so we can all start on the same page.

Ignorant – 1) Lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated. 2) Lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about something in particular.

I’m ignorant too, and I’ll be the first one to admit that there is a shit ton more that I DON’T know than there is that I do know.

So why the hell am I defending being ignorant? To make myself feel better? To bring everyone else down a notch? [Read more…]

Paleo Chicken Fingers

Paleo Chicken Fingers

As a wee little kiddo, my favorite meal was always some sort of breaded chicken. Chicken fingers, chicken nuggets, or chicken patty. Basically, I followed three rules…

Did it used to be a bird? Is it covered in breading? Can I drown it in barbecue sauce?

If I got a “yes” in all three of these…well, then it was time to go to town and the shit out some dead birds. [Read more…]

Assess Yourself!

Assess Yourself!

A few weeks back when I was at the Training For Warriors Coaching Certification, Martin Rooney made sure to drill into our heads that the two main reasons for doing a solid warm up are 1) to prevent injuries and 2) to correct and asymmetries.

The first point is pretty straight forward. I don’t care how much you lift or how fast you run, if you workout and end up pulling/breaking/tearing something because you didn’t warm up…you won’t working out anytime soon and therefore won’t progressing.

The second point though, is one I admittedly never paid attention to. We all have asymmetries, but most likely we aren’t aware of them. Noticing that someone else has a limp, or can only raise their arm so far, or anything else is fairly easy. But turning the mirror on yourself and taking a look at your asymmetries is a tad bit harder. [Read more…]

Beer Burgers

Beer Burgers

Earlier this week I found myself yearning to get my ass handed to me and to experience an 8-10 hour ordeal of running, pushing, jumping, crawling, and being soaked to the bone. In the dark. While the biggest St. Patty’s day party in the country happened around me.

Oh, well hello GoRuck Challenge Savannah.

This won’t be the first time I’ve been to Savannah. Over the summer my friends and I did a little Southern East Coast road trip, and Savannah was on the list. [Read more…]

A, B, See You Later…

A, B, See You Later…

Speed, everyone wants it.

(The physical ability, not the drug, only idiots want that shit.)

But, for whatever reason, coaches and athletes continue to take a somewhat flawed approach to increasing speed. High knee drills, insane volume of plyometrics, mile after mile after mile of running to “build up a base”, and plenty other things that don’t really work that damn well.

Well, I’m here to point you in the right direction. All of the stuff I just mentioned will NOT be included because, hey…we all want results in a timely manner.

So first things first… [Read more…]
